...and you will go to Mykonos

I have absolutely no inspiration to do anything today. At all.

I woke up a while ago and was gonna get up, hit the gym and run some errands. Not sure what happened. Perhaps its the somewhat gloomy day or the fact that I've had a bunch of productive, busy days in a row, I don't know. My music choices aren't helping either.

I pretty much want to be on my bed listening to music, but its kinda lonely.

Being in the UK again has made me want to start traveling. I was browsing fares on the cheapie airlines and I'm thinking either Ibiza or Majorca for a long weekend. I also want to hit Dublin and London, of course. I could definitely also see more of Greece. School work and money will obviously determine my travel schedule more that anything else.

I've been spending money like its going out of style lately and I really need to calm that shit down. It will probably be better when I don't have to by kitchen and bath supplies and pantry staples all the time.

Well, this has been a lively and fulfilling entry. More later when I am up and about!

Sunday Funday

I don't have much time for an entry, I'm about to go cook dinner and have some vino.

Today was actually super fun and exactly how a Sunday should be. Woke up, relaxed with my window open, listened to some Bob Dylan went to the gym with Andrew then to Tesco to pick up stuff for dinner. Came home, showered and am just waiting on people to come over and start cooking. Then......LABRYNTH! Oh yeah, David Bowie, that's right. I randomly found the DVD in the cheap-o bin at Primark and have been excited to watch it ever since.

Last night was the party for the ICC (my school) and so Adar and I wandered costume-less over and had a surprisingly great time. Really good company (future colleagues) and good food and drink. I am now really enthused about school starting, I think its going to be a crazy adventure.

I may still be in the honeymoon phase with Balfast, but I am probably the most content and peaceful I've been in a long time. Of course I still miss everyone terribly!

Dinner time!

The juice of happiness

Some of the shit that's happened so far in Belfast is so bizarre/stupid/crazy I couldn't even make it up.

Last night after my lovely shopping day with Rachael and a great homemade stir-fry dinner, I got gussied up and headed down to Scholars Bar to meet up with everyone. Had a few beers there and headed to the main event of the night: international party at Grant House.

We're talking a small, smelly room filled with people drinking and speaking in a ton of languages. Hilarious, really. At this point we've got a shoe-less lesbian and an Indian following our pack to the party (as if we weren't eclectic enough). Sean and I were sharing a bottle of wine out of a tiny coffee cup that Polish Michael was kind enough to wash out for us.

So there's this guy that every single international student probably knows. We're talking like 400+ students from 40 or so countries. He is tiny and horny and hilarious. We probably just went to the party to see him and his crazy antics. The absolute highlight of the night was to hear him describe the pronunciation of his name to some asian girls who were looking terrified. He just kept saying, "it's like, juice, of happiness...you know....juice...of happiness" Bizarre and hilarious. We cracked up for about an hour over the thing.

Knowing that nothing else could top that we just went to Sopranos and had kebabs, as usual. Great night.

Arthur's Day and Kins of Leon

So, yesterday was Guinness' 250th birthday.

We had planned to meet around 1 at the Bot to start celebrating this great occasion but due to the late night at Stiff Kitten, only Sean made it at the proper time. Andrew and I stumbled in around 3:30 and the drinking commenced. It was a really great time hanging around day drinking. We had free beers and food and took really horrible pictures. Apparently as a group we are just not very photogenic. At 17:59 everyone did a toast to Arthur Guinness while watching a simulcast from around the UK and otherwise. It was really cool to be a part of. The best part was probably Tom Jones singing "Its not unusal" directly after and being in a super packed pub singing along (only the first verse, of course).

Around 8 or so some of us decided that a nap and change of clothes was in order and we disbanded. Well, I woke up around midnight having no idea where I was and why I was in fancy dress. It was really a proud moment for me thus far. Luckily, Kristian, looking out for my well-being decided that he would fetch me and we would get kebabs so I wouldn't go to bed hungry. We had a great time watching the really drunk people stumble about and not actually be drunk ourselves. Apparently Irish men just pee wherever the mood strikes them.

As of now I'm a bit under the weather, not having 100% adjusted to the time difference. However, Rachael and I indulged in a bit of retail therapy today in City Centre and perhaps Jay will bring his projector over for a movie night. I bought Labrynth today and I'm pretty excited to watch it.

I think that's probably enough rambling for now, look for more later

WTF was I thinking

Ok, its a slow day around here, just waiting to meet up and go out later. I decided to upload some pictures to facebook and tidy up my room a bit. I started hanging everything up I realized I must have been drunk when I packed. Not one, or two or even 3 black sweaters went in the suitcase....there are 3 cardigans, a pullover and a zip hoodie. All black. Seriously. I know most of my wardrobe is black because I worked at Roxane for so long but come on, Maggie. At least if I really want to get crazy I also have 2 gray sweaters. But that's it.

Yes, this is superficial but it is really annoying me. I gave away almost half of my clothes before leaving, then took about 1/2 of what was left. This is a seriously small amount of clothing options. Also, its cold here. Already.

Guess I'll just have to make a visit to Victoria Square and do some shopping.

The First Week

I've been here a week today and I should have started this then. I've had so much happen both good and slightly ridiculous. I am glad for whoever decides to read this blog, I'm going to use it in lieu of email updates because it just seems easier that way.

I am settled in to my house for the most part, my room is a mess but that's just due to total lack of storage. After a trip to Ikea yesterday with Rachael and Sean, I have enough kitchen tools to cook a bit, which makes me really happy. I made chili and brownies last night for everyone and am looking forward to more cooking. I had almost forgotten how much better the grocery stores are here than in the states. I've already eaten a few of my Tesco favorites.

I have been really fortunate to meet some great people right off the bat and have seen a bit of what Belfast nightlife has to offer so far. I went on pub crawls 2 consecutive nights, it was insane. I will only actually have school for 4 hours a week so I have a considerable amount of downtime, which suits me just fine. I have been wandering around City Centre and my neighborhood and its been really great. We are going to see Kins of Leon tonight (yes, really, a Kings of Leon tribute band) and I am pretty excited. Good company always improves things.

I'm sure there are plenty of other things to mention but I will be updating this fairly frequently (I hope) with stories and updates. Thanks for stopping by!
